ABOUT Me and YYC Photo

Hey, I’m Roberts, the person behind YYC Photo.
I’ve always been drawn to moments. The small, unplanned ones that happen in between everything else, the kind you don’t think much about at the time, but later become memories you’re glad you have. As a kid, I picked up a camera simply because I wanted to keep those moments from disappearing. That never really changed.
As I grew up, the camera just stayed with me. It’s been there on job sites, on adventures, meeting friends, traveling, and even while walking my dog. It’s always around. Over the years, I’ve photographed family, friends, complete strangers, and everything in between. Real moments. Unposed moments. The kind you can’t recreate.
That’s exactly what I want to offer you.
I’m not just someone who shows up, takes photos, and leaves. I’m a guy with a camera who genuinely cares about documenting your story, whether that’s an adventure, a wedding, sports, a family gathering, or professional photos for your business. If you’re a company owner looking for clean, honest visuals, I can be your guy too.
I also shoot on 35mm film and develop my film myself. If you’re drawn to a nostalgic, imperfect, timeless look, film has a special kind of magic, and I love bringing that feeling into people’s stories.
And if you’re someone who values physical memories, not just digital ones, I offer prints and even make custom photo fridge magnets. Something you can actually hold, see every day, and feel connected to.
WHAT YYC PHOTO MEANS TO ME
YYC Photo is more than just a photography business to me. It’s about community and supporting local people and local businesses here in Calgary and beyond.
Right now, YYC Photo lives online, but I see it growing into something more. Maybe one day it becomes a physical space where people can come hang out, look at photography, flip through iconic photo books, buy film cameras, learn how to shoot and develop film, and connect with like-minded people.
That’s the dream. And maybe one day, it becomes real.

A LITTLE PERSONAL NOTE
The photos you see here are me.
One of them is a mirror selfie I took when I was about 9 years old with my very first camera. The other one? Taken about 25 years later, in the same place, with the same camera, doing the exact same thing.
I think that says everything about why I do what I do.
